Partially within the Peak District, Sheffield is best known for being the setting of ‘The Full Monty’, a film whose title means the whole works. Indeed, vibrant Sheffield has the whole works - excellent shopping, great nightlife and an impressive sporting heritage.
It first came to fame during the Industrial Revolution for its pioneering role in the UK steel industry. One technique invented here is commemorated in the name of its most famous theatre – The Crucible, home of the Snooker World Championships.
Close by are the peaceful Winter Gardens with their multi-arched roof. The Peace Gardens are overlooked by the elegant town hall, and the focal building of the impressive Botanical Gardens somewhat resembles Crystal Palace, also by the same architect.
The city’s 2 football teams – Sheffield United and Wednesday – play at Bramall Lane and Hillsborough Stadium respectively. The cutting-edge English Institute of Sport is also based here, and the nearby Sheffield Arena is a prime UK venue for music and entertainment. The best shopping is found in the Meadowhall Centre near Rotherham.
Booking.com’s Sheffield accommodation includes city centre hotels with parking, others by Victoria Train Station, and guest houses near Doncaster Sheffield Robin Hood Airport.
There is no aircon in the rooms.
The rooms are a claustrophobic worse nightmare.
A really weird layout.
Parking is over priced and restricted with no guarantee that you’ll have a space if you go out and come back.
The room floor gets wet after a shower and as it isn’t carpet stays wet unless you use your towel.
All of the staff were very friendly and polite.

I was visiting my Grandson at the University just for the weekend. I would have liked to stay longer to go walking in the Peak District. We did go walking Saturday afternoon but would have liked to do more.
Sheffield is a good base for visiting the Peak District. It is also good for Shopping and Eating out.
Would like to return soon.

Sheffield is a brilliant place for a short visit.
Sheffield is a brilliant place for a short visit. There's so much to do. It's a vibrant city with something for everyone – gigs, arts, countryside, shopping, people-watching. Very friendly to visitors. Plenty of trams and buses makes car-free travel easy. If you are travelling by car, allow plenty of time because it can get busy at peak periods. There is plenty of safe parking (try Qpark) but it's not cheap.
First time I'd been to a show at the City Hall, and I'm really impressed by the venue. Look up at the painted ceilings. Very comfortable seats, and excellent views of the stage.

The absolute chaos in the middle of town.
The absolute chaos in the middle of town. Why they couldn’t do one bit and finish it before going on to another part, I don’t know. There was only work being done on limited zones so planning could have caused far less inconvenience.
Also, it was very annoying that we couldn’t hail a taxi and had to walk through the cold and wet to get one and be inconvenienced by walking around all the scaffolding etc!
We loved the restaurants, however. Pizza Express was very helpful with our three small nieces and nephew. Piccolino made us very welcome and had delicious food. We also ate at Ask Italian, altogether positive.
The potholes and lumpy roads made driving around very scary.

We were visiting the Peak District for the second time and stayed at the Hilton as it worked out cheaper for the amount of time we were staying and is only a short drive away from all the countryside destinations we visited - around 20-25 minute drive
First of all the location - the hotel is a short walk from the train station and Sheffield city hall.
The staff was nice and answered our questions prior to booking.
The room is very spacious and clean, bigger than we thought! Very comfortable bed.
The shower stream is strong,
the natural soaps are amazing.
It's a big plus to be able to have both a shower and a bath to choose from.
The air conditioning was working great.
The view is amazing.
It was overall a very good experience.
Would totally recommend and go again.
Our room was double aspect, always a bonus. The bed was comfortable. The air con worked reasonably well. The breakfast choice and quantity was good and adequate. The attentiveness of the staff was especially outstanding. The opulence of the reception, dining room and staircase was way above what I had expected. The old pictures were really interesting of the hotel when it was THE Great Central Railway Hotel in Sheffield beside Victoria station now sadly demolished. And the locomotive name plates....marvelous.
The room.was comfortable and very clean. We were able to order food as we hadn't eaten and didn't get there until late. The food was just pizza but was tasty and just what we needed. The check in process was really easy. The location was great, right in the city centre and we managed to get a parking space at yhe Hotel although they are limited and spaces were very tight. Breakfast was amazing and fab value for money!
We chose this based on location, and the location is great, especially if you like to walk. Sheffield City Centre is definitely walkable from here, and there are some great restaurants just around the block. Staff was very friendly and were absolute saints! The room is not that big but still spacious enough for myself. The neighborhood is very nice, safe and walkable, we'd love to go back!
A great house that feels very separate and secluded with all the required amenities and instructions for use. An ideal Location for exploring Sheffield, Kelham Island and it's pubs and restaurants and a short walk into the City Centre. Quiet area, easy to park and plenty of space. Very clean, bright and tidy with a nice view from the bedroom across the river.
Room was typical Ibis in terms of bed and shower etc. Wi-fi worked well. Near to the station and also near the tram stop. Convenient for the shops - Staff pleasant and friendly. Room clean. Quiet place, even though
it was a large hotel near the City Centre. Would not hesitate to stay again.
The smell of the reception was the first thing we noticed, absolutely gorgeous! The staff at the reception were so smiley and helpful and even the other people staying in the hotel were kind and friendly (complete opposite from where we are by London) 😂 can’t wait to visit again!
The hotel was very nice n clean staff friendly but the location is a little distance from the city centre there are no public transport links on a Sunday and taxis cost a bomb I think the price of hotel should be slightly cheaper to reflect this
Friendly staff and they are very helpful too, the Hotel is close to Sheffield Arena, Meadowhall Shopping Centre and the City Centre too, the rooms are very comfortable with en suite shower and toilet. Drinks machine can be found in reception
The room was well appointed. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom had a good shower. The price was excellent offering very good value for money.
Very convenient for an evening out in Sheffield and a short walk from the station.
Modern spacious room, nice food at breakfast (though only oranges for fruit, would be nice to have one or two other fruits for variety), friendly staff, 30% discount on the car parking, very convenient location for Sheffield city centre.
Travelled with grown up daughter, two double bedrooms ideal and much better value than hotel.
Good value safe parking.
Beautiful apartment, spotlessly clean.
Everything we needed for breakfast.
We were very impressed.
Perfect for a stay up in Sheffield. Was up there for the weekend to see my mate at uni and to watch the football. Short walk to the shops and a pub, easy and cheap Uber to city centre. Great location!
Stayed with dogs and the room was ideal. Hotel is not far from city centre, but in a quiet neighbourhood with a beautiful garden. We usually stay here now when we visit family in Sheffield.
Excellent location for the University of Sheffield and city centre, both c.5 minutes walk away.
Simple, clean, functional room.
No TV but free WiFi so it was fine for phone or laptop.
Really nice apartment, everything I needed - I could have stayed much longer than two days very comfortably. Felt like a home away from home. Good location in the centre of Sheffield.
