Honestly I wouldn't go back, but enjoyed the time with my family seeing the sights. Could have been a long weekend, a week was too much. After being in Florence and Venice it was a bit disappointing overall. Hotels and restaurants were pretty consistently disappointing.

I came around 3rd week of May and it’s already very crowded starting at 10. If you want to check the places quietly and to have good pictures, I recommend to wake up early, especially for Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and Pantheon. Rome is very cultural and it’s nice to see the churches especially the facades. Food is also a must try.

Highlights are the Roman ruins, Vatican, Synagogue, Pantheon, Trevi fountain, and historic streests wth all the cafes and restaurants. Staart off with a hop on hop off bus tour. Follow on the map, and once you have your bearings, nowhere is too far to walk.
Don't bother with botanical gardens or the Villa Borghese Gardens. Both are poor - the latter appears to be about to be redeveloped, so could be fabulous in a year or two, but currently is mainly grass, and areas which are fenced off and more like a building site

Rome is a fascinating city but very busy with tourists...
Rome is a fascinating city but very busy with tourists around May, the time of our visit. Our B&B “Holiday Home Il Signo a San Pietro” was a perfect base for our group of 5. Just a 500m walk to Cipro Metro station meant you could easily traverse Rome by metro to visit all the attractions. Note that there are enormous queues for the main attractions, so if you want to see any of them close up make sure you book beforehand and expect to be in a queue for hours!
Eateries galore but expect to pay a lot for those in the tourist areas. Wander off the beaten track and they become much better priced. Some exceptions are always there: found this small eatery close to Termini Railway Station, which was pumping out great Souvlaki and Biryani to a steady stream of locals. No tourist to be seen! And so cheap!
In short: if you’re willing to walk a bit you’ll see a lot of Rome and can avoid the tourists a bit. They actually put a warning sign out for you: the “flagpole” carried by the tourist guide, followed by a mob of “sheep”. Makes it so much easier to steer around!

Rome was more interesting and charming than I initially thought. I should have stayed longer. However, the main attractions are very busy and crowded. Stay away if you don't like crowds. Otherwise, you'll have a blast exploring this ancient city.
Delicious restaurants within steps from the door. We definitely recommend for a less hectic experience in Rome with quick access to all of the historical sites. The area had a more neighborhood feel to it that was greatly appreciated. The place itself was comfortable, clean, spacious and nicely appointed. In fact, the bed was the most comfortable bed we slept in since our Italy trip started! Guglielmo was easy to communicate with and recommended some really great food options including gelato. I would absolutely recommend a stay!
We stayed at this hotel on the first night arriving in Italy and also our last night. There is a BIG difference in the quality of the two rooms. This particular room was very up to date. BEAUTIFUL! I wished we had gotten this room on our first night! Great location, easy walk from train station! We tried gelato at least 15 times in our 2 week Europe trip, and the Gelato directly across the street from the hotel is the WINNER for the BEST gelato!!! I recommend the amaretto cherries one with the brittle. WOW!!
Probably one of my best stays in europe and particularly in Italy for that range of price. Staff was very kind, helpful and humble. The room was very clean with all equipments. no noise from the streets since the window is toward the garden. very close to the metro and Roma Termini. and I need to mention while the breakfast was not on the list of benefits I had access to the coffee and light breakfast and also the kitchen tools. I would surely remember this hotel for later when I visit Rome.
we loved the location even though the metro, train station, tram and buses where on the doorstep we preferred to walk so we could see more of this beautiful city, the staff were very friendly and helpful. breakfast is offered which is coffee and pastries, which is mainly offered all over Italy. after a day of exploring Rome there are a couple of amazing restaurants just up the road from the hotel that don’t over charge and deliver good service and quality food
This was the best place we stayed in Italy. Nice and new, modern and contemporary. Felt extremely clean, comfortable beds and we were lucky enough to have a view of Piazza Venezia from our room. Great location, we walked everywhere and didn’t have to use public transport once. Plus the breakfast! Pietro really went the extra mile to make breakfast each morning that bit special. Will definitely be back when we return to Rome.
This was simply a fantastic hotel choice! The location is perfect, walking distance to lots of main attractions, the room was very clean and confortable and on top of that all were the hosts. This is a family run hotel, and they are all very kind, always eager to help and to explain what to visit, where to go in Rome or Italy! Super kind! We felt at home ! Coming back to Rome and of course, coming back to this lovely hotel!!
I travelled on the spur of ht moment to watch rugby (Scotland v Italy). I know Rome and Italy quite well, having lived and worked and studied there in the past. Rome is clearly suffering from the covid lockdown and the city's finances are not good. The hotel is new and clearly makes an effort ..to establish itself and gain a good reputation. The location is good..and the staff were always helpful and supportive.
The room was incredibly spacious and stylish and the roof top terrace also had amazing views of Rome. The location is great if you are catching the train around Italy and was only a 5 minute walk away. The staff at the front desk where excellent, we were greeted by Omar who gave us a great rundown of the hotel and gave fabulous restaurant and gelato recommendations.
Our room at Hotel Nazionale was by far the biggest and nicest of our stays in Italy. The rooms were large and very comfortable. I especially enjoyed the large, deep bathtub. The bed was also the most comfortable of our trip. The hotel staff was very nice, and teh location is great. You're within walking distance of all of the major sites in Rome.
The staff were all amazing, so friendly, pleasant, welcoming and helpful. We’ve stayed in many hotels in Italy but here the staff were head and shoulders above all the rest ☺️
The hotel itself was lovely too, clean, comfortable and super location, right beside the Spanish Steps!
We’ll definitely stay here again when back in Rome.
We stayed here for 1 night in Rome before flying back home. The hotel was in a really useful location, just 5-10 mins walk from Rome Termini for the train to the airport. We did the same last time we visited Italy.
The staff are very friendly and welcoming. You can leave luggage here once you have checked out.
Hotel was located within easy reach of Roma Termini station and walking distance to all major attractions and restaurants.
Luigi was so friendly and very helpful and made us feel very welcome, not only to the hotel but Rome, giving a good representation of Italy. Would definitely stay again when next in Rome.
Nice 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment in the heart of Rome. About a 12 min walk to the Colleseum (south) and a 6 min walk from the main train station (east). Clean comfortable beds. Small ensuite bathrooms but nothing suprising for Italy. Nice common area with plenty of extra seating.
Beautiful boutique hotel right in the centre of Rome. Excellent modern facilities, well appointed rooms and large bathrooms which is a rarity in Italy! Excellent location for sightseeing and also a shopping destination too. I highly recommend the hotel.
Hotel Cellini embraces the charm of the old city of Rome to perfection. Laura from reception and the entire staff were wonderful. We ended our Italy adventure with a perfect room, a perfect location and with no stress. Thank you Hotel Cellini.
We stayed here for our last night in Italy due to its proximity to the train station. Typical Hotel style room, dated decor and bathroom, but clean. Breakfast was ok, good value as most rooms in area were double the price.
Very short overnight stay at Kolbe hotel on our way out of Italy and Rome. Nice duplex room that the kids enjoyed staying at. Breakfast was good as well. Location was great too, it's right outside of the Roman Forum.
comfortable beds (best we had in all of italy). friendly staff, honestly we stopped by the front desk a few times to chat with the staff, good vibes! colosseum is literally right outside of your hotel!!
